Our Philosophy

Expeditions Early Learning Journey Epping would firstly like to recognise and warmly embrace the unique place that the First Peoples of the Wurundjeri Willum Aboriginal people’s country have as our nation’s first people. We look to indigenous culture and beliefs to guide our practices in living as one with our country. We acknowledge the First Peoples styles of teaching and learning that has developed over thousands of generations and incorporate the Aboriginal 8 ways of Learning pedagogy into our daily practices and documentation.

Expeditions Early Learning Journey Epping was founded on the belief that every child deserves the right to high quality early childhood education. We believe that children are curious, creative, capable, and confident learners, and we strive to empower children to lead their own learning journey alongside loving, warm, and dedicated educators. Inclusivity is supported and all abilities considered through positive interactions and support from external agencies. We trust children to be the builders of their own learning by affirming their right to express their ideas and voices through a wide variety of experiences and resources.

Our service is committed to the principles and practices of the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework, we believe in equipping our educators through professional development and ongoing shared critical reflection to foster a learning culture among our team of ongoing learning, development, and shared growth.

Reciprocal relationships are at the heart of our philosophy and are grounded in mutual respect and the creation of a supportive, safe, nurturing, and loving environment where everyone can reach their full potential. We believe that children’s resilience grows when adults develop significant positive and open relationships with children, where educators are partners in play, learning and shared experiences. We believe that children’s experience with us should be an extension of their home and that all children deserve to feel safe, nurtured and loved whilst in our care, building a sense of homeliness within our centre. With comfortable and predictable care, children feel at ease with the opportunities provided to them to explore the environment in which they play and express themselves through developmentally appropriate play.

We encourage families to participate in their child’s ongoing learning. Family contributions, opinions, diversity, differences, and culture are valued at our service and the wider community. Open communication between educators, families and children is the foundation to building trusting and respectful relationships.

Our educational programs are designed to be flexible, emergent, and guided by the children’s interests. Our educational beliefs are underpinned by the Reggio Emilia approach to learning which advocates play based learning and open-ended experiences in a natural and child-centred environment, both indoors and outdoors. We promote the awareness of our environmental responsibilities to contribute to a sustainable, cleaner future making eco-friendly choices. We encourage the concept of “Reduce, Re-use, Recycle and re-think” in our everyday practices and in the resources we use.

We believe that health, nutrition, and active play are an integral part of the early years, in setting the foundation for individual health and physical well-being. In assisting children to take a growing responsibility in, and by educator’s role modelling and reinforcing the formation of healthy eating habits, we believe it is important to provide nutritional food for children appropriate to their age and taking account of medical conditions and respecting cultural preferences.

Our Brand Story

An expedition is a bit more special than an ordinary adventure. An expedition is a journey undertaken with a specific purpose in mind.

Expeditions Early Learning Journey was inspired by the important and essential journey children undertake from when they first enrol in childcare to when they move on and start their next stage in life.

Our name has a two fold meaning;

1. We lead from the front with our high quality care and innovative curriculum.

2. We walk alongside children and instill the essential tools and knowledge they need to prepare them as they embark on their next expedition.
